What is the MSE?

The MSE (Maxillary Skeletal Expander) is a type of MARPE (Mini-screw Assisted Rapid Palatal Expander) specifically designed for skeletal anchorage to achieve palatal expansion in non-surgical cases.

Components:

TAD Specifications:

  • Sizes Available: 1.8 mm diameter with standard lengths of 11 mm and 13 mm. Special order for 15 mm is available if needed.
  • Number of TADs: MSE appliances require 4 TADs for optimal stability.

Expansion Screw Sizes for MSE Type-2 Expander:

  • Available Sizes: 8 mm, 10 mm, and 12 mm.

Turning Instructions:

  • Activation Protocol: 6 turns per week for early teens, 4–6 turns per day for adults (0.8 mm/revolution, max 40–60 turns depending on screw size).
  • Duration of Expansion:
    • 8 mm: 40 turns
    • 10 mm: 50 turns
    • 12 mm: 60 turns
